ON TOUR: While She Sleeps w/ Malevolence + Thrown + Resolve
With five challenging, globally acclaimed albums, the British quintet While She Sleeps has established itself internationally as a staple of metalcore, consistently breaking out of conventional sound constraints. With skillfully composed, immensely powerful, and at times intricately progressive songs, the Sheffield band defines what modern metalcore should sound like today.
Even in a career full of bold, powerful steps, their late March release “Self Hell,” a concept album about mental illness, stands out. The sixth album by While She Sleeps (produced by guitarist Sean Long and longtime collaborator Carl Bown) expands its reach further, incorporating symphonic music, hardcore, synth rock, and metal equally. Despite these styles, the band never loses sight of their ability to compose confident, stadium-ready anthems or their focus on advocating for everyone’s mental health.
Initially considered a side project when founded in 2006, While She Sleeps consisted of five musicians from Sheffield who were busy with other bands but shared a musical taste since school days. In early 2010, their first EP “The North Stands for Nothing” was released. Few bands can claim to have toured Europe multiple times and even been invited on an extensive US tour with Bring Me The Horizon with just a handful of songs.
Since then, they have maintained this pace: their debut album “This Is the Six” was released in 2012, becoming a chart success and winning multiple awards. They were invited twice to the VANS Warped Tour and toured extensively through Europe and the USA. Since their second album “Brainwashed,” they have also toured regularly in Asia and Australia. During short breaks between these trips, they feverishly work on their next project and evolve with each album through their intense live ethos. Since their third album “You Are We,” fully crowdfunded by fans, While She Sleeps is considered top-tier contemporary metal in the USA. With the release of their current sixth work “Self Hell,” the success story of the Sheffield band continues as expected.
An additional incentive to attend their always uncompromisingly energetic live shows is their habit of inviting exciting special guests to their concerts. For their eleven shows in ten cities, While She Sleeps has again invited three captivating acts: Sheffield hardcore colleagues Malevolence, Swedish metalcore band Thrown, and French post-hardcore band Resolve.
