ON TOUR: Dayseeker w/ Rain City Drive + Heart Of Gold
Post-hardcore is currently at an all-time high, which is undoubtedly due to bands like Dayseeker. The band with their singer Rory Rodriguez has played their way to the top of the US post-hardcore scene, especially with the release of their current album “Dark Sun” (2022). But already in 2019, Dayseeker caused a stir with their album “Sleeptalk,” reaching number 3 on the US Heatseekers Charts and gaining international recognition. The title song of the album is now the band’s most successful single with over 52 million Spotify streams, revealing two more hits above the 25 million stream mark with “Without Me” and “Burial Plot,” and is listened to by more than 1 million people monthly on the streaming platform. After numerous sold-out shows on a US headline tour, Dayseeker is returning to Europe in late autumn 2024 to play four shows in Germany with Rain City Drive and Heart Of Gold.
Founded in 2012 in Orange County, California, the band was signed to InVogue Records in 2013 after releasing several demos. On their debut album “What It Means To Be Defeated,” Dayseeker initially played modern metalcore, which was already complemented by catchy choruses but showed a significantly more rabid sound than the 2015 release “Origin”. Their second album and first European headline tour culminated in a signing with Spinefarm and the 2017 release of “Dreaming Is Sinking///Waking Is Rising,” where Dayseeker returned to the heaviness of their early days. Thus, “Vultures” shows itself as a hard-hitting metalcore track, while “Six Feet Under” points to the continuous development of an atmospheric post-hardcore sound. With their fourth album “Sleeptalk” in 2019, Dayseeker finally broke all their boundaries and exposed a modern post-hardcore sound that hints at the versatility of their music with djent elements (“Crooked Soul”), pop-influenced alternative rock (“Drunk” & “Burial Plot”), and hard metalcore riffs (“Gates Of Ivory”).
After the successful album released in 2019, “Dark Sun,” the band’s current album, followed in 2022. Tracks like “Without Me” and “Neon Grave” quickly stand out with explosive riffs and catchy choruses and become a flagship for Dayseeker’s constantly evolving sound. At the center of this sound is the partly R&B-influenced vocals of the singer, placed amidst atmospheric post-hardcore elements and modern alternative rock guitars, occasionally breaking out into hard breakdowns towards metalcore. With emotional lyrics and a more mature approach according to Rodriguez, “Crying Without Dancing” and “Parallel” show their perhaps most pop-oriented side yet and deliberately avoid any metal or hardcore influences. Most recently, Dayseeker released acoustic versions of “Burial Plot,” “My Immortal,” and “Neon Grave,” on which the band presents itself in a completely reduced form and demonstrates their exceptional songwriting skills in a new way.
